The Church of the Immaculate Conception (CIC), Umuchima, was aglow with joy on Sunday, June 14, 2026, as the Bishop of Orlu Diocese, Most Rev. Augustine Ukwuoma, paid a pastoral visit to the parish and administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 120 candidates.

The highlight of the visit was the Holy Mass, which commenced at 9:00 a.m. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Bishop Ukwuoma and concelebrated by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Donatus Dozie, alongside other priests. Parishioners turned out in large numbers, demonstrating remarkable punctuality, organization and enthusiasm.

In his homily, Bishop Ukwuoma commended the parishioners for their dedication and commitment to the growth of the parish, noting the significant strides recorded within a short period, from the parish dedication to the present pastoral visit.
He emphasized that the Gospel brings glad tidings, growth and transformation to individuals, families and communities.

Reflecting on the First Reading, the Bishop stressed the importance of gratitude to God for His countless blessings and warned against ingratitude both towards God and fellow human beings.
He further underscored the need for compassion and prudence in human relationships, especially during moments of disagreement. According to him, harsh words have the capacity to diminish the dignity of others and should therefore be avoided.
Encouraging the faithful to become heralds of the Good News, Bishop Ukwuoma reminded them that Christians are sent to evangelize the world and bring spiritual sight to those who have become blind to the things of God. He observed that many people have lost their zeal for God and challenged the faithful to help bring such persons back into the fold through practical Christian living.
Addressing the confirmation candidates, the Bishop admonished them to live according to the Holy Spirit whom they were about to receive more fully in the Sacrament of Confirmation. He concluded by entrusting everyone present to God, before whom nothing is impossible.

Following the homily, Bishop Ukwuoma administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 120 candidates. This was followed by the Prayer of the Faithful and the continuation of the Eucharistic celebration.
After the Post-Communion Prayer, certificates were presented to outstanding candidates and stations that excelled in the recently concluded parish quiz competition, after which votes of thanks were delivered.

In his remarks, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Donatus Dozie, warmly welcomed the Bishop and prayed for God’s continued strength and guidance upon him as he carries out his pastoral ministry in the Diocese. He also appreciated the presence of the priests, religious and parishioners and thanked everyone for their cooperation and contributions towards the success of the visit.

Presenting the parish address, the Parish Secretary, Mr. Ogbaoso Emmanuel, expressed gratitude to the Bishop for his fatherly care and support towards the parish. He also commended the efforts of the Parish Priest and appreciated all those who contributed to the success of the occasion.

In his response, Bishop Ukwuoma thanked the parishioners for their excellent organization, hospitality and commitment to the things of God. He encouraged them to actively participate in pious societies as a means of deepening their faith and growing spiritually.
The celebration concluded with photo sessions involving the Bishop, the newly confirmed candidates and various parish organizations and groups.
