Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON)

The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) in the Diocese of Orlu is a vibrant community of young Catholic boys and girls, teenagers, and young adults who are formed to love Christ, serve the Church, grow in character, and become responsible witnesses of the Gospel in society. As the future of the Church and active members of the Church today, Catholic youth are called to deepen their faith, participate in parish and diocesan life, develop leadership, embrace discipline, and use their gifts in service of God and neighbor. Their mission is rooted in Scripture, where young people such as Samuel, David, Jeremiah, Mary, and Timothy show that God calls the young to listen, lead, serve, and witness with courage. St. Paul’s words to Timothy remain a guiding light: “Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12).

In the spirit of the Church’s teaching in Christus Vivit, Apostolicam Actuositatem, and Lumen Gentium, the Diocese of Orlu takes youth formation seriously because the growth of the Church depends on young people who are spiritually grounded, morally responsible, socially engaged, and ready to become missionary disciples. Through CYON, the diocese nurtures a new generation of Catholic leaders, families, vocations, professionals, and servants of the Church and society.
