The front view of the chapelA SHORT HISTORY

Events of the past make up our history for today. Our present activities will form the materials for history tomorrow while the experiences of the future will turn out eventually to be history on the making. So is life full of historical facts and experiences that may not just be taken for granted due to the effects they have on general human events and actions. St. Mary’s seminary has passed these various stages from the inception and right now, after a little above fifty years of her existence, the story must be enormous but makes an interesting reading as a history. Among the many individuals that left their footprints on the sands of this seminary, these personalities are to be remembered in a unique way.The Side view of the chapel

 1. Bishop J.B. Whelan (Owerri Diocese) that sent Rev. Fr. Thornton as the first Rector.

2. Giovani Cardinal Battista Montini (Later Pope Paul VI) that helped in funding the seminary for the completion of its initial building.

Dedicated ChurchA SHORT HISTORY OF THE PARISH

“How lovely is your dwelling place Lord God of Hosts” (Ps. 84:1). This biblical verse describes the magnificent and resplendently adorned edifice erected for the honour and worship of God at Owerre Ebeiri, Orlu L.G.A. of Imo State. The Solemn dedication of Our Lady of Lourdes Owerre Ebeiri which took place on 21st April, 2014 (Easter Monday) drew numerous people, both within and outside the community.

Bishop and Fr. DesOur Lady of Lourdes was made an offshoot of St. Martin’s Parish Owerre Ebeiri on 20th June, 1993 under the then Parish Priest, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Peter Onyebuchi of the blessed memory. On 12th November 2005, the foundation laying stone ceremony was performed by the then Bishop of Orlu diocese – Most. Rev. G.O. Ochiagha with Rev. Fr. Dr. Hilary Mbachu as the parish priest. Apparently, it became pertinent for expansion of the building, Rev. Fr. Dr. Frederick Nnabuife applied to the congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples ( Propaganda Fidei) in Rome for subsidy which was granted. Thereafter, the start of the church building to the decking of the gallary  was borne with the subsidy from Rome.  Chief Gilbert Nnabuife started, built and completed the… Continue reading

THE PRIESTLY REMAINS OF REV. FR. LONGINUS OGOWUIHE LAID TO REST ON TUESDAY, 16TH JULY 2013.

Funeral of Late Rev. Fr. Longinus Chimezie Ogowuihe

Rev. Fr. Longinus Ogowuihe

A voice is silent in the midst of the Church and in our land, the like of which will not be heard again in our day. The vocation of Fr. Longinus is consummated; he responded with one final “yes to the call of God, a “yes, so final than human frailty and infirmity can never reverse it.”

With these words from the homily of Archbishop Edward T. O’Meara at the funeral of Archbishop Fulton Sheen, we begin this oration in honour of our brother Rev. Fr. Longinus Chimezie Ogowuihe, a loyal but vibrant priest of the 21 St century Church, an emerging figure and beacon of hope for the Church in the modern era.

The truth of the matter is that the Presbyterium of the Catholic Diocese of Orlu did not anticipate this event of today considering the fact that Fr. Longinus is just at the preliminary stages of his priestly ministry as one who is ordained barely five years ago- on August 2007 to be precise. Therefore it is with a heart full of grief and eyes… Continue reading

… Bishop Ukwuoma appeals for change of heart and repentance

On Thursday, 2nd February, 2012, the Catholic Bishop of Orlu, Most Rev. Dr. Augustine T. Ukwuoma publicly condemned the predominant acts of violence and insecurity in the country. He made this known at All Saints’ Catholic Parish Ebenator during the Funeral Mass for Late Chief Alphonsus Okuma who was murdered in cold blood on November last year by men of the underworld. He wondered why the Igbos as a race can no longer love themselves as before when we were each other’s brother’s keeper. These days, out of jealousy, envy, greed, the Igbos have engaged in massive destruction of themselves and may eventually roll into extinction. He warned the Igbos, that the present rate of killing, kidnapping, violence and hatred creeping into the land have placed the Igbo race at danger point and may as a consequence, bring about her loss of stronghold and may unfortunately disappear from the face of the earth only to be remembered by history.

The Prelate appealed to the people of God to watch the type of love that exists among brothers and sisters in other ethnic… Continue reading
